Over the course of the Fall semester, we have each selected one object of study from the collection of the Metropolitan museum. Each of these exhibitions re-presents these art works in several ways: in the details of the object; its connections to histories of style and facture; and in a new, imagined, museum context. Museums in the western tradition have been seen as temples and treasuries, sites of ritual, and sites of power--for better and for worse. These exhibitions mark our engagement with this ongoing conversation.
